- Alleppey (Alappuzha) was established by Raja Kesavadas (1745-1799), the Valiya Diwan of the then State of Travancore.
- It was well designed with parallel canals for the easy transportation.
- The first ship embarked at Alappuzha port in 1786.
- Raja Kesavadas made further headway in attracting business men from various parts from Bombay (Mumbai), Gujarat, and Rajasthan etc.
