National Coir Training and Design Centre was established at Alleppey. The National Coir Training and Design Centre moved into its own building in 1986. The objectives of the National Coir Training and Design Centre are development of trained manpower and evolving and popularising new designs and patterns for coir products. With this objectives in view, the following regular training programmes are being conducted.

2.Artisans training Course
3.Training in spinning on motorised ratt under Mahila Coir Yojana.
4.Training in spinning on motorised traditional ratt under Mahila Coir Yojana.
5.Short term training in composting coir pith and treatment of Coirret.
6.Trainers Training Programme in spinning coir yarn on motorised ratts and motorised traditional ratts.
The advanced training course is intended for middle level executives sponsored by small-scale manufacturers registered with Coir Board/Coir Co-Operative societies/Government departments. The minimum qualification for admission to this course is a pass in Plus-Two or equivalent. 50% seats is reserved for candidates from brown fibre sector.

The Artisans training course is meant for actual coir workers already engaged in coir units. Two batches of Artisans were trained every year

The training under Mahila Coir Yojana is intended for giving 2 months training in spinning coir yarn on motorised ratt and 1 week training in spinning coir yarn on motorised traditional ratt to women. The training is conducted at the Training Center as well as in the Field Training Centres set up in association with NGOs/Co-Operative Societies in rural areas.

The short term training in composting coir pith and treatment of Coirret is to educate entrepreneurs in the use of Coirret in converting mechanically extracted green husk fibre into white fibre and recycling of the liquor and production of Coir Pith Organic Manure(C-POM) using Pithplus.

The trainers training program is intended to train the trainers to be engaged in the field training centres for imparting training in spinning coir yarn on motorised ratt/ motorised traditional ratt to rural women.

In addition to the training programs, NCT & DC also organise distribution of Motorised Ratt to the beneficiaries of Mahila Coir Yojana, conducting practical test in spinning coir yarn on motorised ratt in the field units.
